SIBU: Sibu police will conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting incident at a coffeeshop at Lorong 3 Jalan Wong King Huo here yesterday afternoon which saw three men injured.

In their preliminary investigation at the crime scene, the police found 10 9mm bullet casings that have been fired by two suspects who wore motorcycle helmets during the incident at about 4.55 pm.

“We received a call from a man at 5.41 pm saying there was a shooting incident at the coffeeshop. Two shooters came to the coffeeshop on two motorcycles before one of them fired several shots at the victims at close range while another one shot a few rounds from 20 metres away,” said Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili at a press conference today.

In a CCTV footage circulated in the social media last night one of the suspects was seen leaving the scene on a food delivery motorcycle.

The first victim suffered a gunshot wound on his left and right thigh and right leg, while two of his friends got shot on left and right shoulder respectively.

“The victims were rushed to a private hospital and are in stable condition at the moment,” said Zulkipli who added the police had formed a special investigation team to probe the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

The three victims and their three friends had met up to have some drinks prior to going to a nearby gym.

To a question, Zulkipli said except for a victim the other men at the table had past records under Section 148 and 324 of the Penal Code.

In advising the public not to sensationalise the case, he urged them to contact investigation officer ASP Mingat Bakil at 019-8867978 or the nearest police station should they have any information on the case.–Bernama
