SIBU (Dec 11): Approximately 6,000 participants are expected to join the annual Sibu Association of Churches (ACS) Christmas Parade this Saturday.

Held under the theme ‘Jesus, Our Blessed Hope’, this year’s parade is organised by ACS Sibu branch, with the Roman Catholic Church serving as host.

The event will feature a two-kilometre procession through the town centre, accompanied by marching bands and vibrant floats.

Participating churches include the Anglican Church, Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM), Catholic Church, and Methodist Church (Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference and Sarawak Iban Annual Conference).

The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Sibu and several independent churches will also take part.

Event organising chairman Reverend Monsignor Michael Lee, at a press conference held at St Teresa Church yesterday, said the parade, lasting between 35 and 40 minutes, will be accompanied by marching bands from Catholic High School, Sacred Heart Bagpipe, Tung Hua School, and the Boys’ Brigade.

“We will also have 10 well-illuminated floats from the participating churches, followed by stage performances by the church members at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1,” he added.

ACS Sibu branch secretary, Eta Ting, meanwhile outlined the route for the event.

The procession will commence at 7pm from Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1, proceeding along Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Ramin, and Jalan Sanyan, before turning onto Jalan Kampung Nyabor and concluding back at Jalan Bujang Suntong.

The affected roads will be closed from 5pm.

Participants are urged to assemble at the starting point by 5.30pm, with floats in position by 5pm.

Separately, Ting announced that the Eighth Interfaith Christmas Celebration, hosted by the Methodist Church, will be held on Sunday, Dec 14, at Kingwood Hotel from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
