SIMUNJAN, 4 Oct: Simunjan Youth Festival 2026 is not only a platform for entertainment and recreation but also an empowering arena for youth through talent development, team spirit and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Sarawak, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said that the celebration of such festivals gives space to young people to pour talent, build networks and carry out activities together.

According to him, the programme also opens up opportunities for young local traders to generate income and gain experience through direct involvement in organized activities.

"This festival provides opportunities and space for especially our youth to showcase their talents and engage in joint activities.

"Those who come today are not only residents of Simunjan, we see people from Asajaya coming too, there are also other places nearby and this we see not only gives opportunities to our traders, it also gives opportunities for our youth to know and see places (rural areas) that are now easily accessible because the road is ready", he said.

He said this while addressing the Simunjan Youth Festival 2026 Suspension Meeting in the parking lot of Masra Simunjan Hall, today.

Gerald explained that such platforms are important in gathering new talent in various fields including e-sports, traditional sports, entrepreneurship and leadership, as well as building discipline and team spirit among the youth.

At the same time, the festival also gives space to local young traders to generate income and build field experience, in line with the efforts of the Government of Sarawak to provide more opportunities for youth to develop in entrepreneurship.

He also hoped Simunjan Youth Festival could be continued and strengthened as a larger annual event with the involvement of more young people, not only as participants but also as organizers, idea triggers, local entrepreneurs and community leaders.
