KUCHING, 8 Oct: Santubong International Nature Trail Run (SINTR) 2026 returns for its fifth edition on 15 November, offering a cross-country running experience that combines elements of history, biodiversity and ecotourism in Santubong National Park.

Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in a media statement today announced that the event is expected to bring together runners, nature lovers and travellers from within and outside the country.

According to SFC, the previous survey recorded participants from more than nine countries, thus making SINTR amongst non-tourism based eco-tourism events in Sarawak.

He said that the SINTR 2026 route also brought participants closer to the Wallace Centre in Kampung Santubong, a location associated with British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, who is famous for his studies of evolutionary theory through natural selection.

"SINTR 2026 also got the cooperation of South Kuching City Council (DBKU) for support at the city level as well as community involvement throughout the event", according to the statement.

Participants can choose from several categories according to their fitness level, including the 21 kilometre run, 10 kilometre run and Fun Hike for a distance of three and five kilometres.

According to the SFC, the 21-kilometre route offers a challenge for experienced runners through technical challenges, carved woodland canopy areas and coastal slopes, while shorter trails are suitable for new entrants and nature lovers.

As an event organised by the SFC, environmental conservation aspects are also given priority through the implementation of the 'Leave No Trace' policy which encourages participants to practice responsible ethics.

This approach helps to protect flora and fauna as well as ensure that the ecosystem of Santubong National Park continues to be preserved.

"The registration of SINTR 2026 will be closed on 15 October or earlier if all participation slots are filled", the statement said.
