KUCHING (March 11): SK Kujang Mawang has become the first school in Serian to benefit from a free transport service sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak to ease students’ commute.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, who officiated the launch, said the school was chosen after reports highlighted challenges faced by students in attending school consistently.

The service, which began operating on Jan 13 this year, transports students from Kampung Pengkalan Amo and Kampung Kujang Mawang to the school.

“The initiative provides free, safe transportation for students who face difficulties due to distance and limited public transport. It also aims to improve school attendance,” he said.

Dr Sinang added that the service is expected to attract more students from surrounding areas to SK Kujang Mawang, improving the quality of education in rural areas.

He also noted that the initiative helps reduce daily transportation costs for parents while strengthening ties between Yayasan Sarawak and the local community.
