KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) presented a cheque worth RM102,000 to SK Sacred Heart, Semeba.

The allocation is for the purchase of classroom furniture, cabinets, ICT equipment (laptops and projectors), upgrades for Bilik Sumber and the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) hall.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang thanked UNIFOR for the allocation and praised the unit for extending their assistance beyond repairing religious buildings.

“UNIFOR is not just helping churchs, nor just rebuilding churches but also helping mission schools to repair and improve the schools as well,” he told a press conference during the presentation of an UNIFOR cheque to the school at Batu Kitang Service Centre, Mile 6 here today.

At the same time, he also called on the federal government to return autonomy for education  to Sarawak as well as whatever allocation that is due to the state.

“It (allocation) must be given back to Sarawak together with autonomy for education.

“With the capabilities of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under the leadership of Premier of Sarawak, we will be able to do a lot for our schools. Not just schools, but hopefully we will be able to teach the history of Sarawak and the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) to our children.

“This is to let them know and understand, where we all come from and how we can regain our rights and privileges back,” he said.

Also present were UNIFOR representative Ambrose Linang, Kampung Semeba village chief Thomas Gown and SK Sacred Heart headmistress Magdalene Lilawati.
