ADVERTISE HERE
SIBU (Oct 22): The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has been called upon to arrange for personnel to clean the buildup of moss and grime at Dolphin Park here.
In making the call, Sibu MP Oscar Ling said the council must arrange for the cleaning works to be conducted as soon as possible to ensure the park is well maintained for the public’s safety.
According to him, he had again received complaints from the public yesterday regarding the moss and accumulated grime growing on the surrounding tiles and cement ground of the structure, following similar complaints in early August.
“I hope SMC can regularly arrange for workers to clean the park so as to prevent accidents due to the slippery surface of the tiles.
“This ensures that pedestrians and tourists visiting the park can stroll around in a safe and clean environment,” he said in a statement.
Moreover, Ling pointed out that although there is less moss growing on the landmark’s marble spheres, it should still be cleaned to enhance the park’s aesthetics as the structure is located in the heart of Sibu.
“There are several parks and squares in Sibu’s urban areas which are symbolic recreational spaces that enhance the town’s aesthetics and beauty.
“Maintaining their cleanliness and beauty is important for providing residents with a pleasant space for leisurely activities and giving tourists a memorable impression of Sibu,” he said.
To this end, Ling urged the public to raise their civic awareness and moral standards by refraining from littering, keeping public spaces clean, and not causing damage to plants or public properties.
Additionally, he hoped SMC would conduct more inspections to maintain the standard of Sibu’s public parks.
