BINTULU (Feb 26): Two infrastructure upgrading projects funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) are being implemented at SMK Bandar Bintulu to strengthen safety and improve facilities for students.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang said the two key projects are the reconstruction of the roof at the school’s waiting area and the construction of a slope protection retaining wall.

“The upgraded roof of the waiting area will ensure students are no longer exposed to the hot sun or heavy rain during arrival, dismissal and inspection periods.

“A proper sheltered space not only enhances comfort but improves order management and overall safety,” he said after conducting a site visit on Tuesday.

Pang said the retaining wall was a proactive preventative measure, particularly with increasingly frequent heavy rainfall.

“With changing weather patterns and more intense downpours, early reinforcement is crucial to minimise the risk of landslides and soil erosion, especially for areas located near slopes,” he said.

He also said RTP allocations must result in visible and practical outcomes, and instructed all works be carried out in strict accordance with technical specifications to ensure quality, structural integrity and timely completion.
