KUCHING, Nov 22: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap (GPS-SUPP) has proposed turning Stabar Quarry into a tourist destination.

He said the Stabar Quarry which in no longer in operation in Kota Sentosa is just a walking distance from the Kota Sentosa commercial area.

“I propose that the Sarawak government carry out a study for a rejuvenation and beautification project to transform this Stabar Quarry which is just walking distance from Kota Sentosa commercial area into a public park, with sports and public gathering facilities to serve as a tourist attraction.

“This Stabar Quarry has a history, having produced quarry stones to implement roads and other projects since the 1950s and the development of this disused quarry will transform Kota Sentosa into a diversified tourist area with various infrastructure for recreation activities for everyone,” said Yap when debating Sarawak Budget 2024 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at DUN Complex today.

He believed that this proposed development if it comes to fruition, will stimulate the local economy by creating more business and employment opportunities which will benefit the local communities of Kota Sentosa immensely. — DayakDaily
