KUCHING (Feb 24): Hope Place Kuching is providing basic food aid and school supplies to a family of eight, including six children and an ailing elderly woman, residing in Kampung Tebakang Melayu, Serian.
The non-government organisation (NGO) said it reached out to the family after receiving a tip-off from a concerned member of public.
Siti Hazelina Abdullah, 39, lives with her husband, six children aged between two and 16, and her 61-year-old mother, Hamidah.
Her husband, Ispani, 52, works as a security guard earning the minimum wage and is the family’s sole breadwinner.
“With six children to support, his income is insufficient to fully meet the family’s needs,” Hope Place said in a statement on Monday.
The family recently relocated to Serian to care for Hamidah following the death of her husband.
Since then, Hamidah has been struggling with depression and suffers from several health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
Siti expressed gratitude that her mother continues to receive a monthly pension of RM400, from her late husband, which helps ease some of their financial burden.
In addition to providing food aid, Hope Place also supplied school necessities for the children to support their education.
The NGO said it welcomes public help to enable it to continue assisting other individuals and families in need.
Those wishing to contribute may call Hope Place Kuching on 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Donations can be made to its Maybank account 511289001160 or via the S Pay Global QR code available on its Facebook page.
Receipts will be issued upon request.
