KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) is seeking a one-month salary bonus or a minimum payment of RM2,000 for federal civil servants in Sarawak ahead of the tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2027.

STU’s President and CUEPACS Sarawak’s Chairman, Kullin Djayang said the request was made in recognition of the contributions and dedication of federal civil servants serving in the state.

In a statement, he expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Government for awarding state civil servants two months’ salary in bonuses last year, while federal civil servants received RM700.

“Therefore, in conjunction with the tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2027 this year, STU, representing educators in Sarawak, is appealing to the Sarawak Government to consider a one-month salary bonus or at least RM2,000 for all federal civil servants,” he said.

Kullin said federal civil servants had consistently contributed their efforts and expertise to serving the state and supporting its development, despite being employed by the federal government.

He said their contributions deserved recognition and a meaningful reward, particularly as they had not received a similar benefit for a long time.

“We have always given our best and devoted our energy to serving this state. Although we are federal civil servants, we remain committed to our respective fields for the prosperity of our homeland,” he said.

Kullin also expressed hope that leaders of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, would give due consideration to the request.

He said the union hoped the dedication of federal civil servants to Sarawak would be fully appreciated by the state leadership.

Kullin added that the proposed bonus would recognise their continued service and contributions to Sarawak’s development.
