KUCHING, Aug 19: Sarawakian diver Elvis Priestley Clement bags the first gold in the diving event at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma).

The 18-year-old scored 415.15 points, leaving his contender Yong Rui Jie from Federal Territories far behind with 388.80 points in the men’s 3-metre springboard event, which took place at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here today.

This left Yong to settle for the silver medal, while the bronze went to his compatriot Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim, who secured 377.65 points.

Meanwhile, another Sarawakian, Awang Sharzan Nasrin, finished fifth with a score of 306.75 points.

For the women’s synchronised 10m platform event, Sarawakian duo Nur Eilisha Rania Muhammad Abrar Raj and Nurul Farisya Alia Affendi won the second gold medal for Sarawak after collecting 262.08 points.

The silver medal went to Perak’s duo Cecelia Olivia Christopher Leoneil and Siti Nurul Jannah Malik, who scored 197.10 points, while the bronze went to Terengganu’s Ilyssa Ixora Imran and Uzlifatil Jannah Ashraf (189.75 points).

The medal presentation ceremony for both events was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam. — DayakDaily
