KUCHING (Aug 10): Media organisations around the country are all set to provide an extensive coverage of the biggest Malaysia Games (Sukma) in history which will be from Aug 17 until Aug 24.

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he was happy with the preparations and the setting up of the Sukma XXI Sarawak Main Broadcast Centre at the Sarawak Stadium and Main Media Centre at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

“All those in the media including Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), TVS, RTM, Bernama, and the Information Department are ready for Sukma XXI.

“I am indeed very impressed with the state-of-art equipment at the Main Broadcast Centre when I visited it just now. I understand the new technology used is the latest and has never been used in previous Sukma,” he told the media at a press conference today.

“I believe that with that kind of technology and with the launching of the Sukma XXI app, everybody whether they are athletes, officials or the general public, will easily get results, number of medals and know what is happening on their handphones,” he added.

Saying that 488 events from 37 sports will be contested in this Sukma, Abdul Karim revealed that Sarawak has conducted a calculation and forecast, and out of the total 488 gold medals on offer, Sarawak would need to win at least 70 gold medals if it wants to become the overall champion.

Among those who were present were Deputy Minister in the Premier Department (Corporate Affairs and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and Sukma XXI chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee; Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Morshidi Fredrick; Ukas director Samuel Simon; and Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.
