KUCHING (Aug 19): In a stellar performance on the first day of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI swimming event, Kelly Teo Yao brought home two gold medals for the Sarawak swim team.
The 18-year-old dominated the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:06.87 and the 400m Individual Medley with a clocking of 5:08:15.
Fellow Sarawakian swimmer Chereen Ngo also made headlines by securing a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:10.97. The silver went to Kiew Zi Xian from Selangor, who clocked 2:07.13.
In the 50m Backstroke event, Jeff Chua delivered another gold for the Sarawak team with a winning time of 27.19. The silver was claimed by Selangor’s Teoh Kar Chuan with a time of 27.32 while David Lee Boon Wei from the Federal Territories earned bronze with a time of 27.59.
Looking ahead to the second day of events, all eyes will be on Hii Puong Wei as he competes in the 200m Backstroke, with strong medal prospects anticipated.
