KUCHING (Aug 21): Muhammad Lutfir Rahman Mohammad Razak was overcome with tears of joy after clinching the silver medal for Sarawak in the 1m springboard event at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI, scoring 277.40.
The unexpected victory came as a result of Lutfir’s focus on remaining calm and performing his best, following his coach’s advice.“This win has really boosted my spirit,” 15-year-old Lutfir shared.
“I hope to carry this momentum into the mixed synchronized events on Friday and aim for gold.”
Meanwhile, fellow Sarawakian diver Awang Sharzan Nasrin Awang Nasaruddin finished fifth in the 1m springboard with a score of 252.30.
Awang, who faced a challenging day, had previously experienced a heartbreaking moment in the 3m springboard synchronized event with his partner, Soh Tze Kang.
He was unable to complete his final dive as planned, leading to their disappointing result.
“Maybe today was not my day to win,” Awang reflected.
His mother was present to offer comfort and support during this difficult time.
The gold medal in the 1m springboard was secured by Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim from the Federal Territories with a score of 335.35.
The bronze medal went to Terengganu’s Muhammad Haris Mohd Rezal, who scored 273.65.
