SIBU (Aug 21): Sarawak’s Sukma women volleyball team will have the chance to avenge their earlier group stage loss to defending champion Selangor when they face off in the final on Aug 23.
The state spikers set up the showdown after easily overcoming the Federal Territories 3-0 in the semi-final at Sibu Indoor Volleyball Stadium today.
“It will be a rematch against Selangor and we will ensure that the correct strategy is employed and no silly mistakes are committed this time round.
“Our mission is to get the gold medal and nothing less. We need to win to stamp our supremacy in volleyball,” said Sarawak Sukma volleyball officer Lau Sie Long.
“We are just one step away from the title.”
Following their 0-3 defeat to Selangor in the group stage, the team made several tactical changes to their line-up for the subsequent matches, including yesterday’s semi-final.
Powered by Britney Tie, who is appearing in her final Sukma, Sarawak never once fell behind against the Federal Territories, comfortably winning what was initially expected to be a close match 25-14, 25-10 and 25-13.
“I hope supporters will turn up in force on Friday morning to give us that extra boost to defeat Selangor and win the gold,” said Lau.
