Sustainable practices highlight NREB visit

KUCHING: A delegation of 30 representatives from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak visited Chitose Carbon Capture Central Sarawak and ZHA Environmental Sdn Bhd to get a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.

During the visit on Friday (Jan 19), participants gained insights from Dr. Ng Sik Muk, general manager of R&D at Sarawak Energy, and Ryo Iko, senior manager, Tech and Biz at Chitose Group.

A press release on Saturday (Jan 20) said Chitose Carbon Capture Central (C4) was developed in Sarawak through a collaboration between Sarawak Energy Berhad, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, and Chitose Group.

“Delegates acquired a profound understanding of the pivotal role played by this microalgae production facility in advancing carbon capture, contributing to global initiatives against climate change, and promoting a sustainable green economy in Sarawak.

“After the morning session, the delegation proceeded to a visit at ZHA Environmental Sdn Bhd, where they continued exploring environmental initiatives and sustainability practices, particularly in recycling used tires,” the statement read.

It added that ZHA Environmental Sdn Bhd plays an essential role in collecting and recycling used tires across the State.

“These visits aim to provide valuable insights into the environmental benefits of the projects, offering participants important lessons on sustainable practices, including the transformation of used tires into valuable resources,” it said.
