KUCHING, Nov 20: Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada has highlighted that the Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Bill 2023 is a game changer to the State’s economy as while it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, the carbon credit unit trading and carbon levy will contribute to the State’s annual income.
“With this additional income to the state consolidated Fund, we can have a surplus budget to accelerate the development of infrastructure further, to do research and development, to implement socioeconomic programmes and to invest in human capital and entrepreneurship development in our beloved State, Sarawak,” Dr Sinang said when presenting his debate on the Bill during the Second Meeting for the Second Term of the 19th Sarawak DUN, which was held at the DUN complex today.
He continued: “When we have a surplus budget, we can contribute more to our Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund.
“This will fulfil the dream of providing free tertiary education under the long-term goal announced by our YAB Premier (Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) will be realised in the near future.”
Dr Sinang said that the Bill has seven parts and 57 clauses and is well-defined and comprehensive.
“This is a very serious effort by the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government together with the world communities to operationalise the Kyoto Protocol with the aim and target to achieve a net zero carbon emission by 2050 with the various strategies, action plans and incentives towards reduction or abatement of Greenhouse Gases,” he remarked.
Dr Sinang further remarked that he fully supported the Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Bill 2023.
Earlier, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali tabled the Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Bill 2023 during the DUN sitting. — DayakDaily
