SIBU (Nov 4): Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) serves as a bridge to connect the people with key stakeholders, including academic institutions, financial bodies, as well as industry players.

According to its board of trustees’ member Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, through initiatives such as the Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2024, the organisation aims to ensure that students, job-seekers and young professionals would have access to crucial information and opportunities that could help shape their future.

“By providing a platform where individuals can directly engage with universities, colleges, training centres and financial aid providers, Tegas strives to empower our youth with the knowledge and resources necessary for them to make informed decisions about their education and career paths, along with other pursuits.

“We are also proud to bring industry representatives into the fold, creating direct pathways for job seekers to explore employment opportunities, attend on-the-spot interviews, and gain valuable insights into the labour market,” said the Meradong assemblyman when officiating at the closing of the ‘10th SCaT Fair’ at Sibu Indoor Stadium yesterday, organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) together with Tegas.

On the fair, Ding described it as a one-stop centre for students, youths, parents and all members of the community to access the latest information about education, career opportunities, as well as financial aid services provided by the participating agencies.

“For Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) holders, this fair offers a platform to explore academic programmes from universities, colleges, polytechnics and vocational training centres.

“Through face-to-face interactions with representatives of these institutions, young graduates gain a deeper understanding of their educational options, enabling them to make more informed decisions about their futures and explore a variety of fields, from science and engineering to arts and management.

“This kind of exposure is essential in helping students make well-rounded choices regarding their education and career pathways,” he added.

At the event, which recorded a total of 7,974 visitors, the Social Security Organisation (Socso) partnered with 30 companies in offering 1,000 job vacancies across various sectors.

A total of 341 out of 742 candidates who took part in the open-job interview sessions advanced to the second round.

Also present at the event was MEITD permanent secretary Adana Jet.
