KUCHING, 19 September: The experience of watching Liverpool win 3-1 and visiting Anfield Stadium in 2024 are some of the most memorable for Member of Parliament (MP) Mount Semuja John Ilus.

Sharing his experience, John said the visit gave him an opportunity to experience for himself the atmosphere and atmosphere of Liverpool's rugby stadium, although he did not have the chance to walk on the grass over safety and maintenance factors.

He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to set foot in the stadium which became one of the must-do destinations for hardcore Liverpool fans from around the world, including himself.

"At the time, we had a program in London. I was with Grandpa Ding Kuong Hiing back then. I was with Grandpa Ding because he studied at Liverpool, which is why he's interested in Liverpool. He became our tour guide.

"He took me and two other friends all over the stadium, in and out but unfortunately we couldn't get a lawn mower because it was a very guarded thing (the stadium management side) at the time", he said.

The experience was shared by John while delivering the inaugural address to celebrate his first birthday and Sarawak Liverpool Supporters' Club (KPLK) dinner at a hotel in Kuching on Saturday night.

The event brought together over 230 Liverpool supporters, or better known as the Reds, from Sarawak, Sabah and the Peninsula, in addition to some children from The Salvation Army Kuching Child Care Centre.

Meanwhile, KPLK Honorary Secretary Dennis Steven said the establishment of the supporters' club on 18 September was aimed at strengthening ties among Liverpool supporters in Sarawak.

According to him, in addition to being registered under the Malaysian Organisation Registration Department, KPLK is also involved in providing a platform for Liverpool supporters across Sarawak to gather and carry out various joint activities.

"One of the activities we will be doing is watching live matches for every season like the Premier League (EPL).

"We're going to announce to the support group that we're going to hold a match-watching session at one of those places that we'll announce from time to time", he said.

He also hoped more Liverpool supporters would join the KPLK, thus reviving the Premier League's giant club in the region and strengthening friendly ties among its members. -TVS
