KUCHING, Sept. 12: A 22-year-old woman was arrested after police raided an entertainment center in the area of Airport Road here, believed to be operating without a valid entertainment license last night.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the arrest was made around 11:35 p.m.

"Police also confiscated musical equipment from the premises believed to be used for unlicensed entertainment activities.

"The case is being investigated under Section 5 ((1)) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000 for engaging in recreational activities without a valid license", he said in a statement today.

He said if convicted, the suspect could be fined not more than RM20,000 or imprisoned for up to five years or both.

"The police will continue to carry out monitoring and enforcement actions from time to time to ensure that the entertainment premises owner complies with the rules set by the authorities.

"We advise all entertainment premises entrepreneurs in Kuching district to obtain a legitimate entertainment license and not carry out activities beyond the prescribed operating hours", he added.
