The Golden Citizen is dead. Violation of MPV at Kawa Stone

KUCHING, Sept. 17: A 79-year-old golden citizen died after being hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Field Force Road, Batu Kawa, last night.

In an incident at approximately 7:22 p.m. near the intersection of Lorong Field Force 3, a victim was reportedly walking in the middle of the road before being hit by the vehicle.

Padawan District Police Chief, Superintendent Barry William said the initial investigation found that the MPV was driven by a 36-year-old man from Batu Kawa towards Petra Jaya.

"On arrival at the scene, the vehicle moving straight in the left lane is believed to have broken into a victim on the same lane.

"As a result of the violation, the victim was thrown onto the road and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8.32 pm by the Assistant Medical Officer of Sarawak General Hospital (HUS)", he said in a statement today.

According to him, the driver was uninjured and was detained by police to assist with the investigation.

"The results of the review found that the driver concerned did not have a valid driving licence, while the Motor Vehicle License (MVL) and the vehicle insurance respectively expired on 30 October 2025.

"The vehicle was also detained for inspection by the Puspakom, while police were tracking witnesses and reviewing front panel camera footage to help with the investigation", he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.-TVS
