BETONG, 3 Oct: Tanah Berenyang Band emerged as the winner of the ninth annual Sapa Champion Chart Awards (ACSJ) after defeating 12 other finalists on the night of the summit held at Stephen Kalong Ningkan Hall, here, last night.

Bassist of the Tanah Berenyang Band who is also one of the songwritersArrisaJesley Jabu said the success was unexpected after their participation started from nomination to successfully progressing to the final stage.

"It's not fun, but it's normal. We didn't even think it was nominated. When you're nominated, you go to the semi-finals. That's the story, we didn't expect it", he said when he met TVS after the 9th ACSJ in Betong last night.

Meanwhile, local singer Mawat won the title with a songStarry dayremain proud of his achievements, besides receiving several by-laws.

Among them are the Most Popular Finalist Awards, Best Performance and Best Popular Song.

"Thank you for supporting the songStarry dayI'm not. I hope fans will continue to support and admire this song whether in the state or across Malaysia", he said.

Local singer Phoebe Chloe took third place with the songThe Lady of the Sick, so regarded the achievement as something to be proud of after competing with other local singers.

"I'll continue to produce and release my own songs afterwards, as well as collaborating with other writers.

"If the goal is to get into ACSJ, I keep a little bit of hope and leave the rest to fate", he explains.

The prize was presented to the winner by Resident of Concrete Division, Datu Richard Michael Abunawas representing Deputy Premier Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embassy, who is also patron of the 9th ACSJ.

A total of 12 contestants qualified for the final stages of the ACSJ consisting of 10 solo finalists and two group entries.
