PAKAN, 4 Oct: Residents of Sujang House, Sungai Setubu, Babai are now enjoying better connectivity following the completion of a RM100,000 cement road project through Sarawak Government's Rural Transformation Program (RTP).
Tan Sri William Mawan Ikon, a member of the National Advisory Council (ADUN) for Food, said that the facility not only facilitated population movement but also facilitated access to agricultural areas thus helping boost local economic activity.
According to him, the road also makes it easier for people to transport and market agricultural products as well as connecting them with major roads.
"I will continue to be committed to supporting rural development through the provision of basic infrastructure and implementation of various initiatives to improve living standards and well-being of people in this area", he said when inaugurating the project, yesterday.
In this regard, he urged the people to use their land by cultivating crops of commercial value and have market demand in order to increase household income.
He said residents were also encouraged to take advantage of Stolport Bebuling's newly operational facilities as a channel to market agricultural products to wider markets.
In related developments, William said the Head of Community and Chief People (KMKK) should strengthen communication with people's representatives as well as government agencies to ensure that citizens are informed about assistance, economic opportunities and implementation of development projects in their respective areas.
He explained that the facility of agricultural roads should be given attention as it is able to open up access to uncultivated land, thus encouraging the population to expand agricultural activities.-TVS
