KUCHING, 15 Sept.: Sabal Reserve Forest in Simunjan will be the focus of ecotourism destination and environmental education center through Sabal Open Day visit scheduled for 6 to 7 November 2026.

Sarawak Forest Director Datu Hamden Mohammad said the two-day programme will include a variety of exciting recreational activities to attract young people and families.

"In particular, land-based navigation sports (orienteering), motorcycle riding, paintball, jumping, sling shot, as well as food truck sales.

"The forest is also highlighted through the concept of Healing Forest, which is a natural therapy space to support the physical and mental health of communities through activities such as forest bathing and green recreation", he said during the Sarawak Forest Department Emergency Service Awards 2025 and Pesara Awards 2026 here on Tuesday.

For the record, development of Sabal Complex worth RM65 million which started this year and is expected to be completed by 2028 will complete research, training, as well as eco-tourism facilities in the area.

Its strategic location near the Pan Borneo Highway between Kuching and Sri Aman makes Sabal Reserve Forest easily accessible as a family recreation destination.

Upon completion, the complex will house research centers, laboratories, Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) facilities, accommodation areas, as well as campsites and caravans to support the state's green economy and biodiversity conservation.

In the meantime, he said that in order to improve service delivery and provide a conducive working environment, Sarikei Regional Forest Office as well as Old District Forest Office have moved to the new Sarawak Government Administration Centre at their respective locations.

"The same steps will be taken by the Bintulu Regional Forestry Office and Sri Aman Regional Forestry Office in the future", he added. - TVS
