MIRI, September 13: The use of engineering technology in the development of seaweed areas is among the key approaches to expanding the capacity of Port Miri.
Sarawak Prime Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the development of the area allowed for the expansion of port infrastructure despite land-based constraints.
According to him, the development of wetlands in the sea-facing area should be carried out on the basis of science and technology, including taking into account hydrological aspects as well as movement of deposits.
"When we wake up, we use technology. When science is brought to the people, our land can grow up against the sea.
"From the hydrological point of view, sand deposits are here. Then the deposit is outside the channel, so the soil will grow here", he said.
He said this while addressing the Inauguration Meeting of the United Party Special Convention (UPC) Sarawak North Zone at closed Miri Stadium, here today.
In addition Brother Johari, the development allowed Miri Port to be expanded and enhanced the ship's capacity to dock and conduct trade activities.
He also stressed that infrastructure development results should benefit the people and states in the long run.
He said, the technology and science-based development approach will continue to be part of Sarawak's strategy in utilizing the resources and wealth allocated to the state. - TVS
