MIRI (Dec 8): Three women who lost their way while hiking near Canada Hill on Sunday afternoon were found safe by the firefighters that evening.
In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the distress call was received at 6.28pm, and seven firefighters from the Miri fire station were dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the firefighters confirmed that three female hikers in their 30s had lost their way while trekking in the area,” it said.
Bomba added that a friend of the victims had alerted them after noticing the trio had yet to arrive at the designated exit checkpoint.
The firefighters subsequently launched a search operation and managed to locate the women before guiding them safely down to the checkpoint.
After ensuring the situation was under control, the operation commander and team returned to the station.
The operation concluded at 7.37pm.
