KUCHING, Dec 21: Conditions for the Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme remain unchanged despite the rollout of the ‘special edition’ of the MM2H programme, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim, who is the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, said S-MM2H is different from the one offered by Motac.
“Our S-MM2H used to be like MM2H programme, until they change the requirement whereby, per applicant, from RM150,000, it was raised to a RM1 million deposit.
“We feel that it is a little bit to big. Since Sarawak has its own autonomy on Immigration, that is why we decided to maintain it,” he told a press conference held at Baitulmakmur building 2 here today.
He was asked by reporters to comment on the recent announcement by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) on the new condition of MM2H programme.
Abdul Karim added that he is also pleased with the increase in the number of applicants following the efforts to maintain the condition.
“I hope that it (special edition of MM2H programme) will lead to many prospective applicants from all over the world wanting to come into Malaysia under this programme,” he said.
On Dec 15, Motac Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing in a statement announced a new condition for MM2H programme to simplify its application.
He said the new condition has more clear-cut regulations and is more ‘flexible’. — DayakDaily
