KUCHING (Jan 28): Several traffic management enhancements are currently being implemented at the Jalan Matang construction and upgrading project to ease congestion and safeguard road users.
The measures were highlighted during a surprise site visit by Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris, who inspected the project area to assess overall progress and on-site conditions.
In a statement, JKR Sarawak said the unannounced inspection was carried out to ensure traffic flow in the area continues to be prioritised for the comfort and safety of motorists while works are ongoing.
Among the measures introduced are the operation of new traffic lights, the opening of two traffic lanes and the deployment of traffic control officers to facilitate smoother vehicle movement, particularly during peak hours.
JKR Sarawak said during the visit, Cassidy emphasised that road user safety must not be compromised despite the active construction works and directed all parties involved to strictly adhere to the approved traffic management plan.
He also called on road users to remain patient and to extend their cooperation throughout the project period to enable works to be completed smoothly and to the required quality standards.
JKR Sarawak reiterated its commitment to implementing all projects responsibly with the well-being of the people as a central focus, in line with its ‘We Build For You’ ethos.
