MIRI (July 31): All village development and security committees (JKKK) must incorporate good transparency practices when handling its finances, said Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said there were cases in the past where some JKKK chairmen appointed their own family members to fill the treasurer and secretary posts.
“Usually in the past, the JKKK chairman appoints his children as secretary, or his daughter or son in-law, as treasurer.
“Thus, there is a need to restructure those whom we entrust to sign the cheques,” he said in his remarks before presenting minor rural project (MRP) grants to recipients at a hotel here today.
The Marudi assemblyman also advised all JKKK members to be involved in the approval process of projects by conducting a roundtable meeting and to use the grant allocations wisely.
A total of 44 recipients, comprising JKKKs under his constituency, non-governmental organisations, sports and recreational clubs, as well as schools received grants totalling RM408,000 at the ceremony.
