Two arrested, drug RM30,595 seized

KUCHING, 4 Oct: Police arrested a local man and woman in a raid on the approach area of Kuching International Airport (LTAK), yesterday.

The two suspects, aged 55 and 38 respectively, were detained by a police team from the Bureau of Narcotics Crime Investigation (BSJN), Kuching Regional Police Headquarters (IPD).

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the results of inspections at three locations showed suspects were seized by police suspected of 128.30 grams of potassium.

"Three of the locations are LTAK parking area, a house in Sri Wangi Park and a premises on Datuk Tawi Sli Road.

"The seized items were 30,180 psychotropic pills of suspected nospan species with a total weight of 5,608 grams", he said in a statement today.

According to him, the total value of the drug plunder is estimated at RM30,595.

He said the initial urine filter test found the male suspect negative for the drug, while the female suspect positive for ketamine.

"Similar to past criminal records, male suspects have 10 criminal records while female suspects have one criminal record.

"Both suspects are now being detained for six days from October 4 to 9 to assist in the investigation under Section 117 of the Code of Criminal Procedure", he said.

Cases are investigated under Section 39B and 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 30 (3) of the Poisoning Act 1952 and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Alexson said the success was a result of ongoing research and public collaboration in disseminating information related to drug activity.
