KUCHING, Sept 15: Two children were rescued after a house in Lorong Sim Kheng Hong 2, Kenyalang Park here, caught fire early this morning.
In the incident at about 2:58 a.m., the victims, Lewis Lau Lee Wei, 39, and his mother, Yii Siew Chuo, 70, were on the top floor of the house when the fire broke out.
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's (JBPM) Operations Movement Centre (PGO) Sarawak, Padungan Fire and Rescue Police (BBP) received an emergency call at 2.58 am before arriving on site about three minutes later.
"Firefighters found that the fire involved a room on the ground floor measuring about 10 x 10 feet that burned 80 percent, while the living room of the house was also damaged about 20 percent.
"The firefighters used two auxiliary channels to start fires, in addition to carrying out rescue operations after concerns of victims being trapped inside the house", the statement said.
Both victims were safely taken out of the upstairs room and then handed over to family members.
The fire was successfully contained at 3:40 a.m. and operations were fully shut down by 4:10 a.m. after the condition was confirmed to be safe.
The operation was headed by PBK I Mohammad Noruddin Yunus with eight members involving an FRT engine and an EMRS, in addition to two PDRM members as well as two Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco) members.
