Two held after police seize drugs worth over RM30,500 in Kuching airport raid

KUCHING, Oct 4: Police arrested a local man and woman in a raid at the arrival area of Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Oct 2, with RM30,595 worth of drugs seized.

According to a statement, a team from the Kuching District Police Headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) arrested the two suspects, aged 55 and 38.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police seized 128.30 grammes of drugs believed to be ketamine following searches at three locations identified by the suspects.

“The three locations were the KIA parking area, a house in Taman Sri Wangi and a premises along Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli.

“Police also seized 30,180 psychotropic pills believed to be Nospan, with a total weight of 5,608 grammes,” he said.

He said the total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM30,595.

Preliminary urine screening found that the male suspect tested negative for drugs, while the female suspect tested positive for ketamine.

“Checks on their criminal records found that the male suspect had 10 previous criminal records, while the female suspect had one previous criminal record.

“Both suspects have been remanded for six days, from Oct 4 to 9, to assist investigations under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
