MIRI (Dec 3): Two men were killed this afternoon after a heavy articulated truck being transported on a trailer lorry lurched into and crushed the vehicle’s crew cab at the Jalan Miri Bypass traffic light junction.
The Lopeng Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted to the incident at 4.20pm and dispatched a team of nine personnel, led by Operations Commander Liew Yee Mee.
Upon arrival, the team found the trailer, carrying the heavy machine, had its crew cab crushed, trapping both the driver and his assistant.
Bomba personnel opened the driver’s side door to allow medical officers to assess the victims.
“Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene,” Bomba said in a statement.
As the heavy machinery remained on the trailer and the crushed crew cab, rescuers had to wait for a crane to lift and reposition it before the bodies could be recovered.
One Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle were deployed, alongside other relevant agencies. Miri Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
