Two men feared missing while gathering ‘sabong’ leaves in Kota Samarahan forest

KUCHING (Sept 22): Two men are feared to have gone missing in a forest near a housing area in Kota Samarahan on Sunday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a call regarding the incident was received at 3.37pm and a team from the Kota Samarahan fire station was deployed.

“The victims, identified as Zin Kumpas, 37, and Eddy Ruddy, 24, are both from Kampung Melaban.

“The team upon arriving at the scene found their motorcycle. According to their family members, both of them had went to search for ‘sabong’ leaves but did not come out,” said a spokesperson in a statement.

Both victims cannot be contacted, however they had sent their last location via WhatsApp.

A search and rescue operation was initiated within a 30-metre radius but had to be postponed at 6.30pm as it was getting dark.
