UKAS, RTM strengthen cooperation to bridge Federal-State information gap

KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) are strengthening their cooperation to bridge the information gap between the people and the Sarawak and Federal governments.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said the cooperation is important, particularly in addressing the growing role of digitalisation in various work processes and information dissemination.

“The state government, through UKAS and RTM, will cooperate in many areas. Certainly, with the presence of digitalisation in many aspects of our work, we need to further enhance this,” he told a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex today.

Abdullah added that UKAS also planned to pay a courtesy call at Angkasapuri, as well as explore materials in the RTM archives that could be shared for the benefit of the younger generation.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Broadcasting Department’s Director-General, Datuk Ashwad Ismail, said UKAS and RTM have always worked together on various events, programmes and initiatives, and that the cooperation would continue to be strengthened.

He said technological development was also among RTM’s areas of focus, particularly in shaping a younger generation with the imagination and determination to master technology.

“At the same time, apart from building closer ties and strategic relationships based on what has been established over the years, we want to further strengthen the relationship between UKAS and RTM, the state government and Radio Televisyen Malaysia, as well as our long-standing strategic partner, TVS, in advancing the national and State agendas,” he stressed.
