MIRI (April 5): Strong unity and active youth participation are key priorities to ensure the sustainability and continued strength of the Sarawak Lakiput Association (PLS), says patron Josephine Duyuk Tuah.
She said the spirit of unity among members reflects the resilience of the Lakiput community and its ability to progress as a united group.
“As an association, unity is our greatest strength. Without unity, we will not be able to go far,” she said at the PLS Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026 on March 28 at the Forum Cultural Building along Jalan Pujut Padang Kerbau.
The meeting was officiated by Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau.
Josephine also stressed the importance of involving the younger generation in the association’s leadership to ensure continuity of cultural preservation and community development.
“They are the generation that will continue the struggle and preserve our customs and culture,” she said.
She also urged the Kiput community to support the upcoming Festival Adit Mucu’ut, describing it as a platform to promote culture and strengthen community ties.
“This festival is an opportunity for us to showcase our culture, uphold our ancestral heritage, and reinforce unity within the community,” she said.
Josephine expressed appreciation to Dennis, who is also Sarawak Tourism Board chairman, for his support, including a RM10,000 contribution to help organise the festival.
Also present were Dennis’ wife Datin Debbie Erang, PLS president Dr Gabriel Karl Wing, PLS vice-president Zaini Esie, committee members and association members.
