Upgraded Kampung Hulu hall boosts community activities in Serian

KUCHING, April 12: The upgraded Dewan Kampung Hulu in Serian is set to enhance community activities and strengthen social ties among residents following its official opening by Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem.

The RM150,000 upgrade project, carried out under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), was officiated during the “Majlis Raikan Syawal 2026” held at Kampung Hulu yesterday (April 11).

Riot said the improved facility will provide a more conducive space for village programmes and gatherings, directly benefiting the local community.

He also highlighted the importance of community events such as the Aidilfitri celebration in fostering unity and closer relationships among residents.

“The gathering serves as a meaningful platform to strengthen ties and nurture the spirit of togetherness within the community,” he said.

He further commended the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Hulu and organisers for successfully hosting various activities, including ketupat weaving, bamboo cannon competitions, children’s festive costume contests, a traditional “bertutung” competition, and a lucky draw.

Riot also expressed appreciation to the contractor, implementing agencies, and village leadership for their cooperation in completing the hall upgrade, enabling it to be used for the celebration.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Mincha Kayen, community leaders, representatives from the Resident’s Office, RELA personnel, and other invited guests. — DayakDaily
