KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos has urged a united approach to fulfil the obligation of supporting and uplifting rural communities.
Minos commended Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang who serves as Rural and Regional Development (KKWD) Deputy Minister for her impassioned plea to rally support for struggling rural communities.
Reflecting on Rubiah’s message during a launching event of the Mobile Rural Community Centre (PKD) programme at MPKS Tambirat Hawker Centre at Asajaya today, Minos, hailing from a rural background himself, echoed the call to extend assistance to economically challenged villagers after achieving educational and economic success.
He emphasised Rubiah’s poignant reminder not to overlook the plight of impoverished rural communities.
“Datuk Rubiah Wang’s words resonate deeply with my own experiences. We must not forget our roots and the responsibility we bear for the well-being of our fellow villagers, especially those facing economic hardships.
“Her call for diverse forms of support is apt. It’s not just about financial aid but also about empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge needed for sustainable progress,” he said in a statement.
Drawing on years of observation, Rubiah’s emphasis on education struck a chord with Minos, who highlighted its transformative role in breaking the cycle of rural poverty.
He echoed Rubiah’s sentiment that education serves as the gateway to understanding global dynamics, witnessing progress, and seizing opportunities in various life domains.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress. It not only liberates individuals from ignorance but equips them to navigate a changing world and seize opportunities,” he said.
Expressing gratitude, Minos thanked Rubiah for broadening perspectives and reinforcing collective responsibility towards disadvantaged rural communities.
“Datuk Rubiah Wang has not only enlightened us but also ignited a sense of duty. Our collective efforts are essential to addressing the economic challenges faced by our rural brethren,” he stressed.
