MIRI (April 5): Transporters delivering rations to SK Long Lellang are urgently calling on authorities to repair a severely damaged logging bridge leading to the village, warning that the route has become impassable and poses serious safety risks.

One of the transporters, Bernabas Elun Idris, 29, said the bridge is on the verge of collapse, cutting off access not only for delivery vehicles but also for residents who depend on the route for daily travel.

“The bridge is in a severely dilapidated condition and requires urgent replacement. If no action is taken, no one will be able to cross,” he told The Borneo Post.

The deteriorating structure has already disrupted the delivery of essential goods, including food supplies to the school, affecting both pupils and residents who rely on the road to travel to Miri and back.

Another transporter, Annekiu Sipun, said her delivery of school bags to SK Long Lellang pupils had to be postponed due to the unsafe condition of the bridge.

It is also learnt that food rations for pupils at the school are running low, as transporters are unable to access the area.

Meanwhile, concerns are mounting over student safety, as the school is scheduled to transport pupils to SK Long Bedian for sports activities on Monday, with the damaged bridge posing a significant risk.

The transporters thus urged the relevant agencies to carry out immediate repair works, stressing that the issue is just not about access but also the safety and well-being of the community.
