KUCHING, Sept 21: Certain areas are bound to experience water supply disruption following pipe leakages or upgrading works on piping system across Sarawak.
Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi stressed that the implementation of Sarawak Water Supply Grid System is not an overnight solution as authorities faced several challenges including leakages on aging pipes and on-site damage by third parties.
“Therefore, I hope that affected households would understand that scheduled water interruption is necessary to give way for repair or upgrading works.
“If we do not schedule the ‘shut down’, how can we do our work?” he pointed out during MUT’s Excellent Service Award 2023 held at Pullman Hotel here last night (Sept 20).
Meanwhile, he further said unexpected leakages would lead to unscheduled water interruption.
“There are certain people who would blame us for the sudden notice but leakages can happen anytime and without our knowledge. If we do know, it wouldn’t be called ‘unscheduled’.
“That is why we called on everyone to understand the works that are undertaken by the ministry including our departments and all agencies because we know that such essential utility is very important to the whole of Sarawak.
“We are doing our best to achieve what has been set and targeted by the Sarawak government,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and MUT permanent secretary Jafri Lias. — DayakDaily
