SIBU: The University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Global Resources Management (GRM) in an effort to enhance its digitalisation expertise in the education field.
According to its vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, GRM is an impressive and large company in digitalisation, and the collaboration between UTS and GRM aligns with the Sarawak government’s goals in Sarawak’s Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.
“In order to achieve that mission, we must have the technology, services, and data. Our university must possess these capabilities.
“This partnership will facilitate knowledge exchange, create practical training opportunities for our students, and prepare them for careers centered around technology,” he said in a press conference during the MoU signing between GRM and UTS at the UTS senate room here yesterday (Sept 19).
Khairuddin added that the collaboration would also allow both parties to work together in academia, as well as joint research and development initiatives, especially focusing on emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), data computing, data centers, and infrastructure.
“Hopefully, by integrating the technology and infrastructure provided by GRM, we will incorporate it into our curriculum and syllabus. We aim to equip our students with the latest technology available and provide them with the necessary skills,” he said.
Meanwhile, GRM executive director Sylvester Wong said that for companies and governments, strengthening digital infrastructure is a long-term investment that boosts connectivity, supports smart cities, and enhances global trade.
“As technologies like AI, cloud computing, and 5G grow, robust infrastructure becomes even more important to support innovation and sustainable development.
“Ultimately, digital infrastructure is key to driving digital transformation, ensuring societies can fully benefit from the new opportunities and efficiencies that come with a connected, digital world,” he said.
Also present were GRM managing director Datuk Stanley Ling and UTS deputy vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Shahril Osman.
