Van with six on board crashes in Sibu, child suffers minor injuries

SIBU (Nov 28): A van carrying six people skidded and crashed off a slip road landed on its side near the Paradom Roundabout in Sibu on Thursday evening, leaving a child with minor injuries.

Zon 4 Fire and Rescue (Bomba) chief Andy Alie confirmed the incident and said the situation was quickly brought under control by the responding team.

“Our team from the Sibu Central fire station arrived at the scene at 8.16pm and found that all six victims had managed to exit the van on their own.

“No one was trapped and the condition at the site was safe,” he said in a statement.

The accident, reported at 7.54pm, involved five adult males who were unhurt and one child who sustained slight injuries.

The injured child was handed over to Ministry of Health personnel and transported to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

Operations commander senior fire officer II Chuma Jadam said no rescue operation was required as all victims managed to exit the vehicle.

Firefighters conducted checks at the scene and wrapped up the operation at 8.22pm.

The operation involved eight firefighters, along with one fire engine and one emergency medical rescue services unit.

Police and paramedics were also present at the scene.
