KOTA KINABALU: The last Super League match against Sabah FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) at Stadium Likas here tomorrow night will be the final match of former national striker Mohd Amri Yahyah’s professional football career.
Sabah FC conveyed its appreciation to the player, who is better known as Wak Am in a statement tonight, thanking him for his loyalty and contributions throughout his three seasons with the team.
The club also mentioned that he was so well loved by local fans that he had gained the moniker ‘Ketua Kampung Likas’.
“In the time he spent with Sabah FC, he never stopped being a role model for other players and displayed such commitment and determination when playing. Wherever you will go, you will forever be a legend in the hearts of Sabah and Malaysian football fans.
“To all Sabah FC fans, let’s fill Likas Stadium tomorrow to show our thanks and celebrate our final farewell with our legend,” the club said.
Tomorrow’s match is vital for fourth-placed Sabah, currently with 41 points, behind third placed KDA FC, with 53 points, and a victory would mean Sabah leapfrogging over KDA FC om league stadings.
Mohd Amri began his football career representing Selangor in 2001. Besides Sabah, he also played for several teams, including Melaka United, Sarawak United and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).–Bernama
