KABONG, Oct. 6: A 32-year-old local woman was arrested by police on suspicion of engaging in online value added gambling activity at a retail store in Pekan Kabong, yesterday.
The suspect was arrested at about 3.30 pm by a team of members of the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) of the Regional Police Headquarters (IPD) Saratok via Op Dadu (Jol).
Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was arrested while on a counter at the premises.
"In the raid, police also seized a gold Vivo Y04 brand cell phone as well as cash of various denominations.
"The urine examination of the suspect found the results to be negative", he said in a statement today.
He said an initial investigation found the suspect claimed to be operating as an online gambling sales agent around the retail store.
"The suspect, who hails from Kapit and has been living in Kabong for about two years, is believed to be carrying out the activities as a source of by-income.
"The suspect started the activity about a week ago after starting working at the retail store in relation to targeting customers around Pekan Kabong", he said.
Cases are being investigated under Section 4B (a) of the Open Houses Act 1953 (ARJT 1953). -TVS
