Woman jailed nine months for drug abuse

KUCHING: A local woman was sentenced to nine months in prison by the Magistrate Court here today for her involvement in drug abuse activities involving Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.

The accused, Helena Samuel, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read out by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge, she was caught using Methamphetamine and Amphetamine at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department Office of IPD Padawan, around 12.35 pm on October 11.

Consequently, she was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under the same section of the act.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah ordered that the accused be placed under police supervision for two years after serving her sentence.

The facts of the case revealed that the initial screening of the accused’s urine tested positive for drugs while she was detained at the Padawan Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.

Subsequently, the urine sample was sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital, where a report confirmed that the accused tested positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.

The case was prosecuted by Officer Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
