SIBU (Jan 29): Construction of a new parking facility at Rumah Anne Saging in Pasai Siong is set to commence following the official handover of the project to the appointed contractor on Wednesday.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau, together with engineers from Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) witnessed the site handover, marking the formal start of the project.
Lau said the residents of the longhouse have long faced a shortage of proper parking facilities.
“Through the Bawang Assan Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund, arrangements were successfully made to construct a designated parking area for the longhouse,” he said.
Lau explained that the lack of parking had resulted in traffic congestion and posed safety risks to both residents and road users.
He added that the issue was pointed out during the ‘Gawai Mangkung Tiang’ celebration held at the longhouse in June last year, prompting follow-up action by the relevant authorities.
Following residents’ feedback, SRDC engineers, with assistance of Councillor Jeksen Chuban, conducted a site inspection to assess conditions on the ground and propose suitable improvement measures.
Expressing satisfaction that the project is now able to proceed smoothly, Lau hoped residents would continue to cooperate closely with all relevant parties involved to ensure timely completion.
“My team will continue to monitor and oversee the progress of the works until completion to ensure construction quality meets the required standards and delivers the lasting benefits to the residents,” he added.
