KUCHING, Feb 24: A man was killed and two others injured in an accident involving two lorries at Jalan Batu 12, Sibu, today.

In a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.04am, and firefighters from the Bintangor station were deployed with assistance from the Sarikei station.

The report noted that the accident involved a fertiliser-laden lorry that rear-ended a tanker lorry. Upon size-up, it was found that two male victims who were lorry attendants were trapped inside the cabin of the fertiliser lorry, while another, who was the driver, managed to exit the vehicle on his own.

The operations commander reported difficulties in extricating the victims due to limited and confined working space, and a lorry from Sarikei was requested to assist in pulling the vehicle to create more space and facilitate rescue operations.

Eventually, firefighters managed to extricate one victim who was reported to be conscious and was handed over to the medical staff from the Ministry of Health (MOH) for treatment.

The second victim was confirmed to be deceased by MOH personnel, and upon extrication, was handed over to the police for further details.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Stanley Ali. — DayakDaily
