KUCHING, Apr 1: Twelve students from Kuching South visited Guro District in South Korea from Mar 30 to Apr 4 under the Kuching South–Guro Student Exchange Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening long-standing ties between the two cities through youth and cultural exchanges.
In a recent statement, the students paid a courtesy call on Guro Mayor Jang In Hong during the programme.
Welcoming the delegation, Jang highlighted the strong friendship between Guro City and Kuching South and expressed hope that the visit would further deepen ties while providing students with a meaningful cultural experience.
“Guro City and Kuching South City have built a strong relationship through continuous exchange and cooperation. I hope this visit will be a memorable experience for all of you,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, a student representative said they were honoured to take part in the programme and appreciated the warm welcome extended by their hosts.
“We are truly honoured to be part of this programme and grateful for the warm welcome. This is our first visit to South Korea, and it is an experience we will always cherish,” the student said.
Another student representative said the visit allowed participants to experience Korean culture firsthand while building new friendships.
The exchange programme is conducted under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both cities and held on an alternating yearly basis to promote cultural understanding and youth engagement.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the programme reflects MBKS’ commitment to child development under the UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Initiative, where Kuching South is recognised as a UNICEF Candidate City.
He said the initiative provides students with opportunities for international exposure, cultural exchange and meaningful learning experiences. — DayakDaily
