KUCHING (July 8): A total of 14 awards were presented at the state-level Ma’al Hijrah celebration held at Hikmah Exchange here yesterday.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi were on hand to present the awards to the recipients.
Among the awards presented included the Research and Development Achievement Award which went to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) campus director Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini; Muslim Civil Servant Award (Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi); and Non-Muslim Civil Servant Award (Sarawak Education Department deputy director Dr Les Met).
The Mosque Management and Administration Award went to Al-Hidayah Mosque at Kampung Bako, Kuching; Surau Management and Administration Award (Sural Darul Mukmin at Kampung Riam Jaya, Miri); and Excellent Public Religious School (SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan).
Also presented were awards for the Excellent Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) Student which was awarded to Amirul Adib Seman; Excellent Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) Student (Selina Ling Abdul Hamid); and Excellent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Student (Awang Muhammad Hazim Syazwan Awang Nazri).
Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk MisnuTaha in his speech said the council supported the Sarawak government’s efforts in developing the state.
“We at MIS and all Muslims are very supportive and will ensure that every Muslim will be involved in the efforts of the Sarawak government,” he said.
Also present were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, and Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
